The Elisha Rhodes Suite is a full-sized executive suite with an attached bath that includes a spacious tiled spa shower with built-in shower seat, side jets, and hand-held shower wand. Amenities include a Victorian period-style oak writing desk and chair, a Victorian wing-back chair, a king-size brass bed, and a period marble-top dresser and armoire.
Elisha Rhodes was appointed by President Van Buren to be US Consul to the Port of Galveston, Republic of Texas. Also the father of America’s first science fiction writer, Elisha lived at the present-day Inn at Gray’s Landing with his wife and children. Tragically, his young wife and infant daughter died suddenly. Following this unfortunate event, the grief-stricken Elisha had an immense bed made in which he and all of his remaining children slept until the famiy moved to Galveston.
